Do you enjoy being outdoors, learning and teaching about environmental science, and working on outdoor projects? Or how about building trails, improving wildlife habitat, monitoring wildlife populations, and gardening? Or simply greeting visitors?

Come volunteer at Tin Mountain Conservation Center – there’s room for everyone! Learn about nature, gain experience, and strengthen your resume. We can use your help once a month or once a week, the sky’s the limit. Getting started is easy, and no experience is required. All you need is a sense of adventure and commitment to the Tin Mountain mission. The staff at Tin Mountain will train you in the natural history of greater Mt. Washington Valley and the specifics of your job.

Over a hundred “Tin Mountain-eers” put in thousands of hours every year to help Tin Mountain orchestrate programs and events like First Season Festival, Fryeburg Fair, Mt. Washington Bicycle Hillclimb, Mt. Washington Century Ride, Halloween Hoots, Christmas Bird Count and Annual Meeting. Countless volunteer hours are dedicated to helping staff blaze, clear, and maintain Tin Mountain’s extensive trail system, and many volunteers help keep our building clean, functional, and looking good.

Trails & Grounds – Meet every Monday mornings at 9am, weather permitting

  • Perform maintenance and carpentry services
  • Help build and maintain trails
  • Process firewood
  • Mow lawns and fields

Teaching Assistants

  • Assist naturalists with tours and birthday parties
  • Help with public programs
  • Design and build educational displays
  • Create teaching visual aids

 

Publicity/Marketing Assistants

  • Create and distribute flyers and posters
  • Assist with fund-raising activities
  • Help organize special events
  • Assist with media relations and press releases

Office Help

  • Assist with clerical work and answering phones
  • Run occasional errands and do odd jobs
  • Organize shelves and teaching supplies
  • Help keep the Nature Learning Center clean
  • Enter data on computer
  • Help with mailings, faxing etc.

Wildlife Research

  • Maintain duck boxes and feeders
  • Inventory species ( plants, animals, birds)
  • Monitor rare plant populations
  • Monitor breeding bird plots
