Whether you call it larch, tamarack, hackmatack or Larix laricina, it is our only native deciduous conifer. The Eastern larch is commonly found in swamps and wetlands in boreal forests across Canada and the northeastern tier of states all the way to central Alaska. Learn more about the natural and cultural history of larch trees by joining us for this easy five-mile scenic walk at the Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson and Whitefield, NH. We will also have the opportunity to see migrating waterfowl, beaver activity, and learn more about a recent natural community survey at Pondicherry. Dress for the weather and bring water, lunch, binoculars and a camera.
