Chris Lewey, a beekeeper for more than 35 years, will introduce the science of keeping bees and explain those with an interest may get started in this fascinating endeavor. The ecological aspects of the honey bee also will be covered and a closer look at the operations inside the modern hive. The social structure of the colony (sometimes reaching over 80,000 individuals) will be discussed, and the roles of the three classes (workers, drones, and queen) explained. This program will easily inspire awe for these hard working insects.
