Take a walk to the base of Humphrey’s Ledge with Tin Mountain Conservation Center Education Director Lori Jean Kinsey, who will acquaint us with the fabulous spring wildflowers that inhabit the forest floor of our numerous northern forest communities and to learn to identify them. This moderate is a short hike, but it involves rocky uneven ground and perhaps some boulder scrambling so sturdy footwear is in order.
Humphrey’s Ledge is an amazing natural geological feature and the enriched forest community that has developed at its base provides the right conditions for several relatively uncommon wildflowers. In addition, the forest community that has developed in this area is diverse in species composition and the rich soil has produced trees with tall crowns.
